What is the age requirement to apply for a loan? |

Age limit to apply for a loan is between 18-65 years old. However, the loan should generally be repaid within the balance of your employment or employable years. |

Currently there are no penalties for persons paying their loan early. |

Yes, any St. Lucian citizen living out of St. Lucia can apply for a loan facility with the Bank providing they meet the criteria. |

What are the opening hours of the bank? |

We are opened to the public from 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday. |

The Bank only finances projects with a minimum value of $3,000. |

The current lending rate ranges from six percent (6%) to twelve percent (12%) based on the risk assessment of the particular loan. |

How can I apply for a loan with the SLDB? |

Who governs the operations of the SLDB? |

The Bank is governed by a Board of Directors that has responsibility for the policy and general administration of the Bank. The Board comprises of a number of public and private sector representatives as well as the Managing Director of the SLDB. |

Does the bank offer shares to the public? |

At present we do not offer share to the public. For the time being, the Government of Saint Lucia (GOSL) is the sole shareholder in the SLDB. |

SLDB offers financing for Agriculturefor Agriculture and Fisheries, Educational and Professional Studies, Housing, Tourism, Industry and Services. SLDB also offers and facilitates technical assistance toassistance to ensure that the projects that it finances could be successful and viable. |

Why does the SLDB not offer savings or checking accounts? |

We are a development Bank which focuses on lending in order to promote and influence economic development in the country. The SLDB does not operate as a commercial bank where savings and checking accounts are prominent, however in order to facilitate loan payments we do standing orders and salary deductions. |

What is the difference between a development bank and a commercial bank? |
| |
A commercial bank is basically established to provide certain personal and commercial banking services to persons. Those banks are owned by shareholders who are looking for increased value in their shares, so commercial banks are driven by and large by a profit motive. A development bank, as the name implies is a bank that is concerned about providing services that will facilitate the development of a country. It assumes greater risks than commercial banks, while seeking to remain financially viable. |

Why was SLDB re-established? |

The SLDB was established with the expressed purpose of fostering further growth in the local economy through the provision of credit and other services to both the productive and social sectors.
The SLDB is committed to modern corporate governance principles, promoting socio-economic development within our nation, paying particular attention to bringing the young people of Saint Lucia within the main stream of socio-economic development. Do you give loans for the purchase of vehicles? |

We do not normally do such loans, but would consider it if it is part of a larger project that we are financing such as a business or agricultural project |
